Community Site Planning Process

What is the Site Planning process?

The Site Planning process will develop a community site plan for the Temagami First Nation in the Shiningwood Bay area of Lake Temagami.

The settlement agreement will include a site planning framework developed by representatives of the Temagami First Nation, Ontario, Canada, and the Municipality of Temagami, which will guide the development of a community site plan.

The Site Planning process will include:

  • developing zoning and land use guidelines;
  • development standards compatible with identified Aboriginal, federal, provincial and municipal standards;
  • consulting with those affected by the development of the community site.

Who will be involved in the Site Planning process?

The Site Planning process will be led by the Temagami First Nation and include representatives of the Temagami Aboriginal community, Ontario and Canada, as well as the Municipality of Temagami. The planning team will include resource people with technical expertise in planning and development.

The Municipality of Temagami has been invited to participate in the Site Planning process, as the Temagami Municipal Official Plan and Zoning By-laws will help inform the development of compatible standards for the community site.

How long will the Site Planning process take?

The planning process will begin in the first year after signing the settlement agreement and will complete the preparation, review and approval of a site plan by year five. The plan will require approval by the Temagami First Nation, Ontario and Canada.

What involvement will the public have?

Throughout the site planning process, there will be several opportunities for interested parties to be informed and to provide comments.
