Temagami Land Claim

Letter from Chief Provincial Negotiator, May 2007

May 15, 2007

I am writing to advise you that effective May 15, 2007 I will no longer be the Chief Provincial Negotiator for the Temagami land claim process.

In 2004, I assumed new responsibilities within the provincial government as the Assistant Deputy Minister and Secretary for Aboriginal Affairs and retained my role in the Temagami land claim process with the goal of seeing the negotiations completed successfully.  There are, however, competing demands on my time and it is becoming increasingly difficult to fairly attend to the demands of my agenda.  Consequently, I have chosen to step down from the land claim negotiation but remain available to consult with the provincial negotiation team.

Effective, May 15, 2007, the Provincial Negotiator will be Dan Goodwin, a member of the provincial negotiating team since 1999.  He can be contacted by telephone at (705) 475-5615 or by e-mail at Dan.T.Goodwin@ontario.ca.   The Temagami toll free line continues to be available at 1-888-456-3430.

I look forward to joining in the celebrations when the proposed settlement is ratified.

Doug Carr
Assistant Deputy Minister and
Secretary for Aboriginal Affairs
