Ontario Participates in 30th Annual All Ontario Chiefs Conference

Michael Bryant, Minister Responsible for Native Affairs addresses gathering

PETERBOROUGH – Ontario is participating at the 30th Annual All Ontario Chiefs Conference held at the Hiawatha First Nation, on Tuesday, June 15. This gathering brings more than 100 Ontario Chiefs together to identify and set their priorities for the coming year.

"My participation at this important gathering of the Chiefs of Ontario is yet another step in the McGuinty government's building of a new and improved relationship with Ontario's Aboriginal people," said Michael Bryant, Minister Responsible for Native Affairs. "We are working together in a spirit of mutual respect to achieve measurable results."

In March 2004, Premier Dalton McGuinty and Minister Bryant met with Aboriginal leaders and service providers to set a new course for Ontario-Aboriginal relations.

The Annual All Ontario Chiefs Conference begins on June 15 and continues through June 17. The conference offers participants an opportunity to work on common issues and learn about new developments in their areas of interest.

The McGuinty Government will also be represented at the conference by David Ramsay, Minister of Natural Resources, and Jeff Leal, MPP for Peterborough.
